Udonis Johneal Haslem (born on 9th June, 1980 in Miami, Florida, USA) is an American professional basketball player, best known as a power forward for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the University of Florida, where he was a key member of four Florida Gators NCAA tournament tour.
Udonis has also played for French club Elan Chalon previously and then signed with the Miami Heat in 2003. He has won three NBA championship while playing for the Heat.
Udonis Haslem: Professional Career
His professional career started since 2001 when he signed with French professional team, Chalon-Sur-Saone. In August 2003, he signed with Miami Heat as an undrafted rookie, where he played in the Rookie Challenge. He earned NBA All- Rookie Second Team honors and helped the Heat reach the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
After that, in 2004-05, Haslem started and appeared in 80 games with averaging 10.9 points, a career-high 9.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 33.4 minutes per game. His 540 field goal percentage ranked 5th on the Heat’s all-time single season and ranked 4th in the NBA.
Furthermore, in June 2006, he played and helped the Heat win their maiden NBA Championship with a 4-2 victory over the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals. He recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds in the title-clinching game six. Similarly, on 10th November 2006, he scored a career-high 28 points in a 113-106 win over the New Jersey Nets.
Despite his ankle injury that took place on 29th January 2008, he played five games of the season on February 23 against Golden State Warriors. In November 2010, he signed a five-year deal worth approximately $20 million with the Miami Heat. But due to his foot injury he couldn’t play well and the Heat were defeated in six games by the Dallas Mavericks in 2011 NBA Finals.
Once again in 2012, Haslem helped the Heat to win their second championship against the Oklahoma City Thunder, and became the team’s all-time leader in total rebounds with 4808. He became the first undrafted player in the history of NBA to set a franchise rebounding record. The following year he helped the team to win its third championship against the San Antonio Spurs.
Besides his basketball career, Haslem has involved himself in the entertainment industry. He appeared in Flo Rida’s music video for the song “Going Down For Real(GDFR)” and was heard on the music video “Bet That” by “Trick Daddy featuring Chamillionaire and Gold Ru$h.
