In an exclusive interview with I Love Old School Music, Peabo talked about his new album, his marriage to his young wife, and how they kept their romance alive.
Peabo’s wife, Tanya Boniface Bryson, was a member of the successful British female band 411 and is part African and half European-British. The late Aretha Franklin was credited by the artist with guiding him on his quest for true love.
He confessed that if it hadn’t been for Franklin’s encouragement to wait it out and meet the one he was looking for, he would not have married. Peabo took her advice and met Tanya, his wife, who was almost not his first.
Juanita Leonard, Sugar Ray Leonard’s ex-wife, was his first love, and he was almost married to her.
At the time, he was 56 years old and she was 30 years younger.
The musician claimed that he and his wife shared a love of music, which aided their relationship. He also believed that friendship was the most stable foundation for any relationship, and that physical trait such as beauty and looks could not keep a relationship going.
Peabo underlined that, in addition to friendship, it was also important to maintain the spark by remaining intriguing and enigmatic.
In order to make a relationship work, the balladeer advised individuals to disregard customary husband-wife roles. Cooking and changing his son’s diapers were not a problem for him, he added.
Peabo Bryson became a parent at the age of 67.
On New Year’s Eve 2017, Peabo and his wife welcomed their first child, a son named Robert Kittrick-Peabo Bryson. In a Tweet at the time, the new dad had joyously announced his son’s arrival, calling him a “gift from God.”
His son is routinely featured on his Instagram account, and many fans have remarked on how much the father and son look alike. Peabo also has a married and child-bearing daughter from a previous relationship.
During the conversation, he also joked about the age gap between his older granddaughter and his toddler son, pointing out that she was raising her uncle.
