After leaving GMA, Sam began anchoring America’s Morning Headquarters in March 2014. However, he left AMHQ in September 2015 to contribute to its prime-time shows, therefore his term as host of AMHQ was short-lived.

Sadly, Sam’s contract with The Weather Channel was not renewed in December 2016, and he retired as a result. However, it was only a temporary situation because he had a new job to attend to.

Following Ginger Zee’s maternity leave, he returned to ABC in February 2018 as a stand-in weather forecaster and volunteered his time for the weekend edition of Good Morning America. Then, on May 22, 2019, it was revealed that he would return to WABC-TV newscasts and begin providing commentary for ABC News in June 2019.

The wedding of Sam and his Brazilian-American companion was hastily planned. They exchanged their wedding vows at Champion’s NYC apartment on 12 December 2012.

At the wedding celebration held at the Icon South Beach, 100 guests, including Lara Spencer, Josh Elliot, and Robin Roberts, enjoyed performances by Nicole Henry and Richard Ray-Alexander.

In 2013, he stated in an interview with Wendy Williams for her show of the same name that he would adore having children if his husband shared the same desire. However, it appears that hasn’t happened yet.
