Morgan Wallen debuted as a country artist in April 2018 with the release of his debut album, ‘If I Know Me.’ His subsequent single releases also did exceptionally well, and the Country Music Association honored him as New Artist of the Year in November 2020.
‘Dangerous: The Double Album,’ Wallen’s sophomore album, was released in January 2021 and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Top Country Album charts in the United States. But, as much success as his work has brought him, the singer claims that his son, whom he had with his ex-fiancée, has had the greatest impact on his life.
Morgan Wallen’s son had a profound impact on his life.
On July 10, 2020, Wallen and his ex-fiancée Katie “KT” Smith welcomed their son Indigo Wilder. They had been dating since 2017 and had even been engaged at one point. Their romance lasted three years before coming to an end in November 2019.
Both Wallen and Smith used Instagram to announce the birth of their child. “Yesterday was nothing short of perfect pleasure,” she wrote beside a photo of herself cradling the child. Indie Wilder, you are an infinite answer to Mama’s prayers and the loveliest tiny human hunk I’ve ever seen.”
Wallen, too, shared a similar photo, expressing his joy at his son’s arrival. He began by remarking that this year had been the most difficult for him, but that it was Wilder’s arrival that had the most influence. He went on to say that becoming a father has altered his life and that it was the “coolest dang feeling.”
Wilder’s Co-Parenting
After the country singer and his ex-fiancée had already split up, Wilder was conceived. They are no longer married, but they do share custody of their kid.
Wallen had previously mentioned in his initial post about his son that he wanted to be the co-parent Smith deserved. He’s also told her about his experiences raising a son. Wallen disclosed to Radio.com in September 2020 that he was spending as much time with Wilder as his ex-fiancée would allow.
Wallen has relied on his parents, Tommy and Lesli, to help him deal with the responsibilities of fatherhood by accompanying him to Nashville to care for their grandchild. According to People, the country musician also confessed that co-parenting was not how he planned to raise his child.
Despite the fact that his parenting experience is radically different from what he had in mind, he and Smith have collaborated throughout the process.
Hiccups in Parenting
Wallen and Smith have collaborated to raise their son, but their relationship hasn’t always been smooth. Smith forbade the ‘Whiskey Glasses’ hitmaker from seeing Wilder in October 2020 after videos of him partying without masks surfaced.
Before Wallen could see his son in person, Smith informed him that he would need to be tested for COVID-19.
