J.B. Mauney, sometimes known as James Burton Mauney, is a professional bull rider and rodeo cowboy. He rides for the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) and the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). He is now ranked #6 in the world in bull riding by Pro Rodeo.

Mauney began his rodeo career by riding a sheep at the age of three, and he is introducing his son to the sport at an even younger age. Mauney and his wife Samantha had Jagger Briggs on January 23, 2019, and he is already following in his father’s footsteps.

In September, he shared a video on Instagram of him playing with sheep and practicing his rodeo skills on a toy horse.

J.B. Mauney’s father-in-law is a rodeo legend, as well.

Mauney was mentored by 1995 World Champion Bull Rider Jerome Davis after establishing an interest in bull riding. After winning four rounds at the PBR World Finals in 2008, he was named PBR Rookie of the Year and finished second in the PBR standings.

Mauney has won dozens of rodeo fairs and professional circuits since then. He won numerous rodeos in 2021, including the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo, Reno (Nevada) Rodeo, Crockett (Texas) Lions Club PRCA Rodeo, and Bandera (Texas) Pro Rodeo.

Mauney isn’t the only member of his family that has created a name for themselves in the rodeo world. Phil Lyne, his father-in-law, was the All-Around Cowboy Champion at the National Rodeo Finals. He was the PRCA World Champion for two consecutive years, 1971 and 1972.

Great American Cowboy, an Academy Award-winning documentary from 1973, was about Lyne’s feud with another rodeo champion.

When asked if her son would follow in his father and grandfather’s footsteps, Samantha told USA Today in 2018 that if he wanted to, he would be a bull rider.

J.B. Mauney’s Previous Marriage Produced A Daughter

Mauney was previously married to Lexie Wiggly before marrying Samantha. In 2012, the two exchanged vows. Mauney had to wait a couple of weeks for the swelling in his hand to go down so he could slide the wedding band on his finger.

Mauney also has a daughter from a previous relationship named Bella. He has used Instagram to share photos of his children and family on multiple occasions.
