Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. aka Denzel Washington (born on 28th December 1954 Mount Vernon, New York, the United States) is an American actor, director, and producer. Further, He has received two Golden Globe awards, one Tony Award, and two Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor.

Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. aka Denzel Washington was born on 28th December 1954 Mount Vernon, New York, the United States to his father, Denzel Hayes Washington Sr. and mother, Lennis “Lynne”.  His father was an ordained Pentecostal minister and an employee of the New York City Water Department.

His mother was a beauty parlor owner and operator. By nationality, he is an American and belongs to the ethnicity of Black. As of 2019, He is 64 years old (soon to be 65 this Dec 2019).

Talking about his education, he attended Pennington-Grimes Elementary School in Mount Vernon. After that, he joined Oakland Military Academy in New Windsor and then Mainland High School in Florida. Later, he went to Texas Tech University and earned a BA in Drama and Journalism from Fordham University in 1977.

 

Denzel Washington: Professional Career

  • He started his early career through the play called Wings of the Morning in 1976 in St. Mary’s City, Maryland, Summer Stock Theater.
  • After graduation, Denzel made his screen debut with the movie titled Wilma in 1977 and his first Hollywood appearance in the film, Carbon Copy in 1981.
  • Next year in 1982, he won a Distinguished Ensemble Performance Obie Award for the role of Private First Class Melvin Peterson in the play named “A Soldier’s Play” which premiered on 20th November 1981.
  • Denzel rose to name and fame when he appeared in NBC’s TV hospital drama St. Elsewhere (1982-1988) as Dr. Phillip Chandler.
