Hayley Paige Gutman, the talented wedding dress designer from Say Yes to Dress, has made news after her previous employer JLM couture accused her of breaching their contract.
The legal struggle began on December 15, 2020, when the corporation filed a lawsuit against the designer for using the Instagram account @misshayleypaige, which they claimed was their property.
The Timeline of Gutman and JLM Couture’s Conflict
The TLC star began her career as a household Bridal designer in July 2011 when she signed a job contract with JLM couture as a designer.
The Instagram account @misshayleypaige was started a year after their contract was signed in 2012, followed by Pinterest with the same account handle name in 2014.
By November 2019, the designer’s official Instagram profile had 1.1 million followers, thanks to the success of her program Say Yes to the Dress and its spin-off, Say Yes to America.
According to JLM CEO Joe Murphy, the designer was invited to come on the show because of his personal relationship with Kleinfeld Bridal, one of JLM’s largest clients.
According to the JLM lawsuit, the designer’s problems began when she changed her Instagram bio to a “Personal & Creative account” and deleted any references to the company.
The corporation claimed to own the exclusive rights to her name Hayley Paige, which was started in the designer’s first employment contract. According to Insider, the complaint alleged that the designer had granted the corporation permission to use her work because she chose to do so.
According to JLM, the matter escalated into a legal struggle after the designer failed to comply with the company’s terms and conditions regarding her Instagram account.
By June 2020, the designer had disregarded all warnings and began posting personal content with paid articles for non-JLM products.
Following a series of failed attempts to reach Gutman, the company filed a lawsuit against her on December 15, 2020. The company took legal action when the designer ceased publishing content linked to JLM and denied the firm access to her account, according to a company representative.
After attentively listening to all sides, the court ruled in favor of JLM and issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to the designer.
Video of Gutman’s resignation
After all of the legal wrangling, the designer released a video on her other Instagram account, @allthatglittersonthegram, on December 21, 2020, which is unrelated to JLM.
The designer made their legal fight public in the video and became emotional when addressing the circumstances she was in. With over 2.4 million views, the video went viral.
Gutman announced her departure from JLM as a designer in the video. She told her supporters that she made this decision following a year-and-a-half court struggle to negotiate a new contract for herself, which culminated in the TRO.
The designer said that she was only 25 years old when she signed a contract with JLM, and in her eagerness to work for such a prominent fashion house, she had not engaged an attorney to read over their contract, which resulted in this tumultuous court struggle.
Unlike her former Instagram account, the designer has started posting more personal content on her new account. The designer has been sharing lovely photos of herself, her fiancé, and their cute dog, Winnie, on social media.
The designer appears to be having the time of her life with her fiancé and has met the love of her life, based on her Instagram account @allthatglittersonthegram.
The Unexpected Proposal
After her first marriage ended in divorce, the TLC personality married her current fiancé, Conrad Louis, a fitness trainer, and model. Her fiancé surprised her with their engagement, which they discussed in detail on their podcast All That Glitters.
There is also a video of Louis on the designer’s YouTube Channel, where he vlogs and talks to followers about his day’s activities.
The couple revealed all of the preparations Louis had to make on his part to ensure that their engagement was as wonderful as he imagined it to be in the 28th episode of their podcast.
Gutman shared a video of herself and her soon-to-be husband-to-be during the recording of one of their podcasts on December 15, 2020, in which the couple discussed the trouble Louis had to go through to pull off the surprise proposal.
The TLC star’s fiancé revealed in the video that they had been planning their July wedding since late January 2019. The ring he used to propose to her was created and made in partnership with Hearts on Fire, a jewelry company in which Gutman worked.
Gutman’s fiancé requested that her parents attend the wedding. He recalls planning a vacation with Gutman’s family and asking them to help him keep it a secret from her and make it the best day ever for her.
As a result, the couple traveled to Lake Tahoe to celebrate the Fourth of July with Gutman’s family.
During their family vacation, Louis had planned to seek Gutman’s parents for agreement on the whole wedding arrangement, but he was having trouble finding her father alone. Louis finally had to drag Gutman’s father away from his Gym routine two days into the vacation to pop the question of marriage to his daughter and ask them to be a part of the celebration.
Even before the 4th of July holiday, the designer stated that her fiancé arrived home in late May and asked her to choose a destination where the two of them could vacation alone, with the options being Hampton or St. John.
In the podcast, the TLC singer stated that she chose St. John.
The designer explained that her decision was inspired by the fact that it was the couple’s first trip together before they were officially dating.
Gutman recalled telling her mother that he was going on a vacation with pals while reminiscing.
Louis adds in the YouTube video that the entire event was a surprise for his stunning designer wife-to-be. The pair is first seen in the video in St.John, Virginia, where they are staying at a friend’s luxurious home.
Gutman’s soon-to-be husband vlogs throughout the video, explaining how Gutman was completely ignorant that he was going to propose to her that day.
All of Louis’s ideas come to reality in the video, which shows the picture-perfect proposal and engagement celebration.
Her Relationship
Prior to Louis, the stylish wedding planner was married to Daniel Wallis, an insurance salesman. Her wedding was like something out of a fairytale. Throughout her wedding weekend, the designer wore five magnificent custom-designed gowns.
The pair married on July 11, 2015, in the Saint Francis Church of Assisi in Lake Tahoe, after being romantically involved for three months.
Their lovely fairytale, however, came to an end not long after. The designer announced her divorce from her husband Wallis via an Instagram post on July 11, 2018, which has since been removed.
The reason for this choice has yet to be revealed, but Gutman made sure to mention that even if her marriage was ending, she was still a strong supporter of love, marriage, and real-life fairytales.
Her Estimated Net Worth
According to Glassdoor, a designer at David’s Bridal Designer can expect to earn anywhere between $109,014 and $136918 per year.
Given her ten years at the company, the designer must have a net worth of over a million dollars.
Aside from her creative career, the designer’s net worth is boosted by her TLC show.
