David Wade Ross, a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player who later became a manager, was married and has three children with his wife Hyla.
His demanding professional life, however, made it difficult for him to spend time with his family. It thus led to a split in his relationships, particularly with his wife, which led to the couple’s divorce.
An Unsatisfactory Marital Partnership
The native of Bainbridge, Georgia, and his ex-wife Hyla originally connected while attending high school. They quickly became friends, and they eventually developed into a love connection.
The high school sweethearts exchanged wedding vows on February 1, 2005, after a period of courting.
Their union was not flawless, though. The former baseball player’s career was the main cause of it. He always put his relationships last since he was too busy with his baseball duties.
After David said goodbye to his professional baseball career in 2016, he made the decision to prioritize his family and develop their relationship.
But it quickly came to an end when he returned to his ESPN job, Dancing with the Stars, and his responsibilities as a baseball manager. That made his family life, which was already tough, even more difficult.
Early in 2020, the couple filed for divorce, driving the final nail in the coffin.
Hyla was given custody of their three children as part of their divorce agreement, with a provision allowing David to visit his children sometimes.
Information about the Children of the Former High School Sweethearts
A boy named Cole and two daughters named Landri and Harper belong to the ex-baseball player and his ex-wife.
The first and second of their children were born without incident, but Harper, the third, was delivered in a medical emergency two months ahead of schedule. The licensed pediatric nurse experienced a partial abruption, which precipitated the crisis (when the placenta separates from the uterus).
The mother and infant were both in peril. Fortunately, the C-section was a success, and the baby was delivered.
Baby Harper was born and spent almost a month in the neonatal critical care unit before being discharged when she was able to breathe on her own without help.
The five members of the family were enjoying their time together after that. Unfortunately, it did not endure forever; the long-term couple divorced.
The two are working together to co-parent their children despite their separation.
The manager of the Chicago Cubs is repairing his bond with his children after divorcing. And as the father of three spent most of his time with them during the COVID-19 lockdown, he had the ideal opportunity to do so.
Fresh Connection to Actress Torrey DeVitto
David, who split from his high school sweetheart, has fallen in love with Torrey DeVitto, an actress best known for playing Dr. Natalie Manning in the NBC series Chicago Med.
The actress kissed the Chicago Cubs manager on the cheek in a black-and-white shot that she posted on Instagram, confirming their relationship.
DeVitto captioned the image with the phrase “Love him fiercely” and a red heart emoji.
In the first week of May 2021, the actress was seen at a Cubs game in Cincinnati, which led many to speculate that the two were dating.
The couple hasn’t said how long they’ve been dating, though.
Like her current beau David, 36-year-old Torrey was previously married but later filed for divorce. From 2011 until 2013, she was married to Paul Wesley, a cast member of The Vampire Diaries.
