Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a columnist and former basketball player, is the father of five children, three from his first marriage and two from his subsequent partnerships. Habiba Alcindor’s Childhood
Kareem Abdul-daughter, Jabbar’s Habiba, was born on the 15th of May 1972 in the District of Columbia, as the first child of her parents. Habiba, like the other children in the enclave, went to home school. She also practiced Islam, which included dressed in authentic Muslim garb.

Habiba Alcindor’s youth was riddled with family strife. When she was six years old, her father, Kareem, expressed his desire for a divorce to her mother, Habiba Sr. Kareem’s parents divorced their marriage through a religious ceremony at Kareem’s request. After that, Habiba and her mother stayed away from her father. Habiba’s mother and father were officially divorced in March 1983, five years after the religious divorce ceremony.
Habiba, Kareem’s beautiful and talented daughter, graduated from high school in 1989, the same year her father Kareem retired from athletics. During her graduation, she received a writing award. She went on to the University of California to further her education. Kareem’s daughter departed Los Angeles in 1995 to attend Oberlin College. In 1997, she graduated there with a bachelor’s degree in creative writing.
Habiba supported herself while in college by working as a server, a housekeeper, and a cashier. She moved to New York City to further her profession after graduating at the age of twenty-five.
Making A Living In The Entertainment Industry
Habiba Alcindor, Kareem Abdul-daughter, Jabbar’s began her career in the entertainment industry as a Script Reader in The Wilma Theater in January 1997. She was employed there till January of 2000. From 2002 to 2003, she worked at The Nation Institute, where she oversaw the production and marketing of Radio Nation. Habiba later worked as the communications coordinator for The Nation Magazine from 2003 to 2012.

From 2013 until 2017, Habiba worked as a Media Specialist for FEMA after leaving The Nation. Kareem’s talented princess has been a Development Associate at Ryan Health since 2017 and at The Floating Hospital since 2019. She is also a journalist who contributes to a number of well-known online publications, including The Huffington Post and The New York Times.
Habiba is also the director and screenwriter of a drama series largely based on the Los Angeles Lakers’ “Gold Rush.” Victorious DeCosta is the executive producer of the drama series. She devised the dramatic sequence to combine her journalism skills with her passion for creative writing.
Habiba volunteers at Paper Tiger, a radical media collective when she has free time from her job. Habiba also serves on the board of the Sports Fan Coalition, which advocates for the rights of all sports players and fans.
