Andrea Constand, a former member of the Canadian National Basketball Team, was the first to accuse actor Bill Cosby of sexual assault. In April 2018, she won her case against Cosby. Cosby, on the other hand, was freed from prison in just two years after serving three to ten years. Constand spoke out for the first time since Cosby’s arrest on June 30, 2021, after the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania overturned his sexual assault conviction.

With Cosby, there’s a lot of history!

Andrea and Bill were met via a mutual friend, and his “romantic interest” in her grew from there. Bill also wanted to meet Andrea, so in January 2004, he called her at midnight at his home.

Andrea admitted to Bill giving her medications and touching her private areas, according to the arrest warrant. Andrea’s mother, Gianna Constand, noticed that her daughter had sleepless nights and sought to avoid her friends a year after the occurrence.

Cosby was found guilty of the assault after the second trial on June 5, 2017, and was placed under house arrest with an ankle GPS tracker. After a few more court appearances, however, Cosby was exposed as a violent sexual predator and sentenced to prison by attorney Steven O’Neill.

On June 30th, news of Cosby’s release broke, prompting Andrea Constand to express her disgust with the law, saying,

“Today’s majority decision is not only disappointing, but also concerning, because it may discourage those seeking justice for sexual assault in the criminal justice system from reporting or participating in the prosecution of the assailant, or force a victim to choose between a criminal and a civil action.”

Constand was planning to publish a book about Cosby’s sexual assaults and the fallout. However, the accused was released before the text of the incident’s memoir was made public.

Andrea Constand was awarded £2.4 million in a 2006 civil settlement for her claims against actor Bill Cosby. The amount was initially kept confidential during their 2006 hearing, but was revealed in April 2018 during their retrial.
