Since January 2, 2015, Muriel Bowser has been the sixth elected Mayor of Washington, DC. She has sworn to bring a new beginning to D.C., where she hopes to pave the path for individuals in the middle class and provide new chances for them and their families to live better lives.

Muriel Bowser was born in Washington, DC, on August 2, 1972, to Joe and Joan Bowser. She grew up in the D.C. neighborhood of North Michigan Park. She is the youngest of a family of six children. She is of African-American origin and maintains an American nationality.
She went to Elizabeth Seton High School, a private girl Catholic high school in Bladensburg, Maryland, for her schooling. Because of her above-average marks, she had been awarded a college scholarship. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Chatham College and a Master of Public Policy from the American University School of Public Affairs.
She had been a resident of the Riggs Park duplex since 2000.
