Khalifa was born Cameron Jibril Thomaz in Minot, North Dakota, on September 8, 1987, to military parents. As a result, young Khalifa spent time in a variety of countries, including Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan.
In 1996, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with his mother when his parents split, and finished his education at Taylor Allderdice High School.

Khalifa’s songs won him a following in his hometown, but he struggled to break through as a mainstream musician. All of that changed in 2010 when he released his track “Black and Yellow,” which went viral and even reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
