‘Naked and Afraid’ on Discovery: 5 Interesting Facts You Should Know

‘Naked and Afraid’ on Discovery: 5 Interesting Facts You Should Know

Since its premiere on June 23, 2013, Discovery’s reality series Naked And Afraid has been a hit.

The show follows two teams of two strangers, one male and one woman, on a journey that would last 21 days in an uncharted wilderness. The strangers must overcome a number of physical challenges in order to survive in the wild, as well as the pressures of fear and loneliness.

Here are five things you should know about the fascinating docuseries.

It’s Not Just a gimmick to be naked.

Every team member of the series meets in their birthday suit, as fans of the show are aware. All of the teams are without clothing, food, and water.

While many people mistakenly believe that the show’s nakedness is a promotional stunt, this is far from the case. Instead, it is a scientifically calculated step to give the obstacles a natural wilderness sense, similar to how Adams and Eve would have proceeded through their trials.

As a result, nakedness is a part of the survivalist condition, because garments provide humans with a significant sense of safety. Depriving them of their clothing would expose them to additional danger and increase the obstacles for the participants.

Are the contestants compensated?

Because there are no incentives for the winner who completes the challenge, the Naked and Afraid contestants have no financial motivation.

Obviously, the survivalists must put their mental and physical health at risk, as the obstacles in the environment could be lethal. They will not, however, be compensated financially. As a result, kids will get pride and a sense of accomplishment.

The series, however, is purely elective. The participants are ready to compete after clearing the physical and mental ability exam. They can, however, leave the game at any time.

Despite the fact that there are no prizes at the end, according to the 2014 competitor rules, all contestants receive at least $5000 in compensation. They are also compensated for their flights to the challenge site.

Is it true that the contestants are in the middle of nowhere?

Naked and Afraid is shot in Australia, Croatia, Canada, and other international locations, including forests, deserts, and other hazardous environments. Despite the fact that the candidates are seen surviving in the middle of nowhere, they are not necessarily far from populated places.

Is ‘Naked and Afraid’ a staged production?

Many people believe the show is scripted, despite the fact that the producers have never confessed it. The story’s creators are said to want to include as much drama as possible.

Shane Lewis, one of the contestants, revealed that the show receives Hollywood treatment. Les Stroud, a Canadian filmmaker, and survivalist, also denied being a part of the broadcast, claiming that it was a hoax.

There will be a spin-off series.

Surprisingly, the show was renewed for a second season, as well as a spin-off called Naked and Afraid of Love. The new series will premiere on Discovery on August 22, 2021.

It will involve sixteen strangers, eight women and eight men, who will fight for survival and love.
