Katherine Langford: How Did She Become a Netflix Star? Her Explanation of Her Journey

Katherine Langford is an actress best known for her roles in the Netflix shows 13 Reasons Why and Cursed as Hannah Baker and Nimue, respectively.

But, unlike her on-screen characters, Langford isn’t just troubled Hannah or warrior Lady of the Lake — there’s probably a lot you don’t know about the actress behind these iconic roles.

Off-Screen, who is Katherine Langford?

The 25-year-old actress is an Australian native who grew up in Applecross, a riverside suburb of Perth, and was born in Perth, Western Australia.

The diva is the eldest daughter of medical services professionals Stephen Langford and Elizabeth Green Langford.

Katherine’s father, Stephen Langford, is a flying doctor who works for the Royal Flying Doctor Service Western Operations as the Director of Medical Services.

Elizabeth Langford, on the other hand, is a qualified pediatrician based in Perth, Australia.

In her family, the Cursed actress has a younger sister named Josephine Langford. The younger Langford is an Australian actress who has appeared in films like After We Collided, After, and Wish Upon.

Katherine Langford’s first love was not acting.

It may sound unbelievable, but Katherine, an incredibly talented actress, had never considered pursuing a career in acting.

Music was always a passion for the Spontaneous star when he was younger. At the age of nine, she began taking jazz, classical, and contemporary vocal lessons. Her passion for music led her to Perth Modern School, where she pursued a degree in musical theatre.

According to EW, her top three career choices when she was in high school were medicine, politics, and musical theater. She was also a national swimmer at the time.

What Motivated Her to Take Up Acting?

Katherine told Entertainment Weekly in April 2017 that she was motivated to be a singer after seeing Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Ball event in Perth in July 2012 when she was 16 years old.

Gaga’s performance had an emotional impact on the actress, who felt spiritually inspired.

At the age of 17, the 13 Reasons Why actor put her swimming career on hold and began attending acting training. She eventually found an agent who set up acting auditions for her.

Langford was always enthralled by female characters, especially Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider and Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, respectively.

“I grew up watching celebrities like Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider, Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games, and those kind of role models and characters were very motivating to me,” she said in a Popsugar interview in July 2020

Katherine Langford: How Did She Get Into Acting?

Langford battled for three years after intending to pursue acting before being accepted into a reputable acting school. Because of her lack of expertise, her admissions applications were frequently denied.

In a July 2020 interview with Glamour UK, she discussed the incident. She explained that she had reached “rock bottom” in her life at the time.

Despite being unemployed and having had multiple setbacks, Langford was adamant about not giving up. She continued to audition for other projects in the hopes of obtaining a good one.

She also sent an audition tape for Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why during the process. A few days later, the show’s producers informed her that they were impressed with her audition and that she had been cast as Hannah Baker, the series’ main character.

During her interview with Glamour, she was quite proud of her younger self.

Katherine Langford became an overnight sensation thanks to the film ’13 Reasons Why.’

In March 2017, Langford made her acting debut as Hannah Baker in Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why.

Her easy portrayal of a teen girl enduring loneliness, disorientation, hopelessness, sadness, and eventually suicide catapulted the Australian newcomer into the spotlight. The actress was also nominated for six awards, including one at the Golden Globes for her breakout performance.

She continued to impress her audiences in the second season of 13 Reasons Why, proving her reputation as a praiseworthy performer.

In the following years, the overnight sensation appeared in a number of other acting projects, including Love, Simon, and Knives Out.

Langford also appeared in Marvel’s Avengers Endgame as the adult version of Tony Stark and Pepper Pott’s daughter, Morgan Stark.

Her scene, however, was cut from the final cut because the directors, Anthony and Joe Russo, thought it would confuse fans.

Cursed, her most recent Netflix release, premiered on July 17, 2020.

Her performance in the fantasy series as the Lady of the Lake was also well-received.
