Everything You Need to Know About ‘The Wall,’ a Game Show

Everything You Need to Know About ‘The Wall,’ a Game Show

TV game shows have gained a lot of traction in America since it gives a different thrill to watch people play and earn money. Many shows like Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire have been on the air for a long time.

The Wall is no less. Vulture has classified The Wall as “the most American game show on television.”

It has been on air since 2017, and the new episodes for Season 4 of this grand spectacle will air on August 9, 2021, on NBC.

Before the new season premieres and you dive deep into the show, here is everything you need to know.

How Does the Show Work?

The game’s name comes from a literal wall that is about four stories tall and has fifteen slots at its foot. It is labeled with varying amounts, ranging from $1 to $1 million depending on the rounds. Above these spaces are pegs through which balls are made to drop.

Participants, paired in twos, are asked questions that test their strategy, knowledge, and luck. If an answer is correct, the ball turns green, and money is added to the team. However, if an answer is wrong, the ball turns red, and money is subtracted.

The game comprises three rounds. The first round is called Free Fall and involves multiple-choice questions.

The second and third rounds are identical, with one team member being placed in a soundproof booth offstage while the other remains on stage as they continue to compete for money.

The split team must collaborate with the player who is isolated, guessing whether the answers provided by the partner on stage are right. Depending on how well they know their partner, the isolated player then assigns the correct ball, either red or green.

Who Is Involved in This?

Chris Hardwick, who has previously hosted series such as Singled Out, Web Soup, Talking Dead, and @midnight with Chris Hardwick, is the host of The Wall.

The show is a collaboration between SpringHill Entertainment and Glassman Media, with executive producers LeBron James, Chris Hardwick, Maverick Carter, and Andrew Glassman.

On the project, Glassman Media worked with CORE Media in collaboration with Universal Television Alternative Studio.

What Is LeBron James’ Take on ‘The Wall’?

James is one of the greatest basketball players in history. He is now a member of the National Basketball Association’s Los Angeles Lakers (NBA).

James is not only a great athlete, but he’s also dabbled in the entertainment industry. He has appeared in films such as Space Jam: A New Legacy, Smallfoot, and Trainwreck, among others.

He has a number of business enterprises, but his latest investment is in The Wall.

According to James, he became engaged with the game show since he understood it was a family entertainment that everyone in the family could enjoy, from children to seniors.

Similarly, he adored the concept of allowing “ordinary folks to win large and change their life in an hour.” James’ excitement stems from his childhood when he and his family used to watch gaming shows on TV.

Who has won the most money so far?

The Wall is the most costly game show on television, with up to $12 million on the line for the lucky pairs of players. Unfortunately, no one has ever claimed such a large sum of money, and the largest awards total less than $1.8 million.

Many participants won over a million dollars in Season 3, but two brothers, correctional officer Hecthan and army veteran Hector, have won the most.

The couple appeared on the show in Season 3, Episode 11, to help their family and friends recover after Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. They made $15,400 from Free Fall, $40,000 from a bonus for two correct responses, and $55,400 from the torn-up contract.

They were awarded a total of $1,749,907 in prize money.
