WILL SMITH HAS LEFT THE MOTION PICTURE ACADEMY… ‘My actions were painful and inexcusable,’ says Smith.
After slapping Chris Rock, Will Smith has resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, according to TMZ.
The following is what Will wrote to the Academy’s disciplinary committee… “I will accept full responsibility for any and all consequences resulting from my actions.” My behavior during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony was startling, terrible, and unacceptable.”
At the Oscars, Will Smith slaps Chris Rock.
He continues… “Chris, his family, many of my personal friends and loved ones, all those in attendance, and global audiences at home are among those I have injured.” I betrayed the Academy’s confidence. I took away the opportunity for other nominees and winners to celebrate and be recognized for their outstanding efforts. “I’m devastated.”
There’s even more… “I want to refocus attention on those who deserve it for their accomplishments, allowing the Academy to return to its tremendous work supporting creativity and artistry in film.” As a result, I am resigning from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and I will accept any additional sanctions that the board deems necessary.”
“Change takes time, and I am determined to complete the work to guarantee that I never again allow violence to triumph over reason,” he finishes.
In a few weeks, the Academy is likely to make a disciplinary decision.
