The father of basketball player Trae Young
His father, a former competitive basketball player, showed Young how to play the sport.
Young’s father, Rayford, grew up in a struggling Texas family, according to the Washington Post. His one sweater and pants attire was almost like a uniform to him because interior warmth was a luxury.
He developed into a talented athlete and, against all chances, played point guard for Texas Tech in the late 1990s.
The NBA player’s father averaged 14.1 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.2 boards over the course of his career while hitting 37.9 percent from beyond the arc.
Ray played for the Houston Rockets for less than a season before moving on to play basketball professionally in various regions of Europe. During the 2001–2002 season, he participated with a number of clubs, including FC Porto in Portugal.
Young always looked up to his father as a model, so Ray is another important factor in why he became interested in basketball.
