Tyra Banks was born on December 4, 1993 in Inglewood, California. Her mother Carolyn London (now London Johnson), is a medical photographer and her father Donald Banks is a computer consultant. As a sibling she has a brother named David, who is five years older.
In 1979, unfortunately, her parents got divorced when she was only 6 years old. However, she wasn’t affected much by her parents’ separation as she was too young. She recalls her childhood and confesses that she used to stay with her mommy during the weekdays and daddy during the weekends. Banks says, “I had two birthday parties, two Christmas, double the present double the fun.” Therefore, she grew up with much love & affection from the family.
Talking about her school days, she revealed that she was of mean, popular and gossipy nature. While schooling in Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles, she noticed certain changes in her body. She lost 30 pounds weight and grew 3 inches taller. Her friends bullied her with humiliating names such as ugly duckling, giraffe, lightbulb head. However, this turned her from being popular to normal freak. Because of her friends teasing and abusing incident, she learned the ‘importance of kindness’.

BanX began her modelling career at the fresh age of 15 while attending school at Los Angeles. Reportedly, her first attempt to find modelling contract met with rejection and discrimination by four modelling agencies before L.A. Models signed her.
