Tyler Butler Figueroa (born on 2008 in North Carolina, United States) is an American violinist and cancer survivor. Tyler was the third contestant from America’s got Talent to get a Golden Buzzer winner of the season. He got selected for the finals and will be competing with other finalists to win the title of the winner of America’s Got Talent season 12.

Tyler was diagnosed with cancer when he was 4 years old. In his introductory video, Tyler told he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.) at the age of 4 1/2. His mom discovered his illness while one day they went out for dinner Tyler turned kind of pale. So a mother’s instinct said, “Let me get him to the emergency room”. When the doctors examined his blood, they came up with the result, saying he was suffering from cancer.
Tyler was treated with chemotherapy for 3 years and revealed that he is now in remission for almost 3 and half years. Chemotherapy treatment resulted in losing hair which made him sad and embarrassed to go to school. The kids used to bully him and laugh at him for being different. They would stay away from him and say his cancer was contagious.
He stood strong and didn’t let those negative vibes affect him and break him. At an early age, he battled with cancer, dealt with bullies and had to go through a lot of hardships. He is a brave child and he is a great inspiration for all of us.
Tyler Butler Figueroa: How did the Violin journey started?
Tyler has been playing the violin for 3 and half years and he aspires to be a professional violinist. He used to do street performance downtown Raleigh NC after break from school to earn money for his trip. Tyler’s mom revealed that he first discovered the violin after seeing a flyer at school for free afterschool violin lessons.
When he told her he wanted to learn violin, she wasn’t ready for it as no one in her family plays any instrument or violin. Kisua noticed that the violin gave him energy and happiness again and she felt like she finally had her son back. In addition, her son revealed that playing violin helps him forget about all the bad stuff. He didn’t want to be the kid with cancer rather he became the kid who plays the violin.
Tyler Butler Figueroa: His journey to America’s Got Talent
Tyler gave his brilliant performance that night at the America’s Got Talent season 12. He performed “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” by Kelly Clarkson on violin, commanding the stage and engaging the audience. The young violinist captured the hearts of the audience and the show’s judges with his performance and story, ultimately earning a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell.
After his amazing performance, which earned him a standing ovation, the judges asked Tyler how he was feeling now that his audition performance was over. He told them he felt really proud of himself Cowell told Tyler he had something to say to the bullies on his behalf before pressing his Golden Buzzer, sending Tyler automatically into the live round of the competition.
Tyler was the third contestant from America’s got Talent to get a Golden Buzzer winner of the season. The Violinist won the hearts of the judges and got Simon Cowell to hit the Golden Buzzer and send him on to the finals. In the quarter-finals held on 20th August 2019, Tyler performed on “Don’t You Worry Child” by Swedish House Mafia, and sailed through to the semi-finals.
On 3rd September 2019, he performed on “Breakfree” by Ariana Grande featuring Zedd, the judges loved his performance. According to TVLine reports, among 11 acts performed on Tuesday, the performance of Tyler Butler-Figuroa, Kodi Lee, Benicio Bryant, Light Balance Kids and Ndlovu Youth Choir got into the finale.
The finals will take place on 17th September, with the result show on 18th September. In the end, the judges will crown that one act that will be the winner of Season 14 and wins a Las Vegas headline and $1 million prize.
