Scott McGillivray, a well-known Canadian real estate influencer, is a multi-talented individual. He is a television host, entrepreneur, investor, author, and educator, among other things.
McGillivray rose to fame as the co-host of HGTV’s house remodeling reality show Income Property, which ran for ten seasons from 2008 to 2016. Moving the McGillivrays, Vacation House Rules, and Scott’s House Call are among the programs he presents.

His Foray into the Real Estate Market
McGillivray discussed his motivation for beginning a real estate and home remodeling firm with Hoss magazine in February 2015.
“I was a Bachelor of Commerce and Business student and in my third year, I was struggling to find a topic to do my final midterm paper on, and you know, I was looking at all the firms I didn’t know, making a business plan and analyzing supply and demand gaps,” the TV personality explained.
He went on to say that he was looking for a place to live at the same time, but that he was having trouble finding one. That’s when he recognized it may be a good idea to start a business.
Following that, McGillivray focused all of his efforts on assessing the proposal, crunching the data, and interviewing industry insiders.
“I got pre-approved for a mortgage while sitting down with the mortgage broker, actually completing a case study, and that’s when I knew I could actually do this,” he added.
He then used a portion of his student debt as a down payment on the properties, which he then rented out to students and others looking for a place to live.
His hard work paid off, as he had 25 properties by the time he was 25 and was a licensed contractor by the time he was 26.
A career in Reality TV and a New Show in 2021
McGillivray entered the television industry in the mid-2000s after establishing himself as a licensed contractor and real estate businessman.
He has been in over 300 episodes of television, according to his HGTV page, and has been the top-rated HGTV star in the United States and Canada since 2008.
He is currently the star of HGTV’s new show Scott’s Vacation House Rules, which is also titled Vacation House Rules. He co-hosts the show with Debra Salmoni, an interior designer and reality TV celebrity.
Between June and August of 2021, the show aired its second season. In addition, the show has been renewed for a third season.
