Grayson’s mother opted to do a fast CT scan while taking him to the doctor, and the scan revealed a tumour in his brain. Grayson had a big tumor growing inside his skull when he was six years old. Grayson Smiley, Slade’s son, was diagnosed with Diffuse Fibrillary Astrocytoma, a rare brain tumor that formed from astrocytoma cells, a month later.

The tumor had spread across Grayson’s brain, cerebellum, and spinal cord. His doctors concluded that removing his tumor surgically was not an option. As a result, they opted to undergo chemotherapy. Grayson had undergone multiple chemotherapy treatments and operations since he was a child to combat his sickness, and he had spent much of his childhood in the hospital.

The Fundraising Program of Slade and Gretchen

Slade and his fiancée Gretchen held a fundraiser in Grayson’s name in November of 2011. Despite the fact that Slade was unemployed at the time, he used his celebrity to organize a fundraising event for the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation.
