David Boreanaz is best known for his role in the late 1990s television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which aired until 2003. In the supernatural drama television series and its spinoff Angel, the outstanding actor, television producer, and director played the character of vampire-turned-private detective Angel.

He wowed viewers with his outstanding performance in the series, particularly as Buffy’s (Sarah Michelle Gellar) love interest.

That isn’t all, though.

Boreanaz was also able to make an impression with his tattoo, which he proudly displayed behind his right shoulder during the series’ run.

Surprisingly, his false tattoo, which was created just for his onscreen character, has become more well-known than his real tattoos. Boreanaz has one on each of his two wrists, for those who aren’t aware of the truth.

On his wrists, the SEAL Team actor has two visible tattoos of Kanji motifs. One of his wrist tattoos is said to mean “soul,” while another is said to mean “destiny.”

He, on the other hand, rarely flaunts them in public. Even his social media updates are sparse, with no mention of his tattoos.

Boreanaz’s wife, model Jaime Bergman, has the same identical tattoos on her wrists as Boreanaz, who is likewise very discreet and does not have an Instagram handle.

Boreanaz and Bergman have been married since November 24, 2001, and their son, Jaden Rayne, and daughter, Bella, are their children.

Boreanaz’s tattoo on Buffy the Vampire Slayer received more television exposure than his actual tattoos, therefore his onscreen tattoo became more well-known among his followers.

His onscreen tattoo is also one of his character Angel’s most distinctive physical characteristics in the series. A winged lion with the letter “A” beneath it was the subject of the tattoo.

The Watcher and father figure of Buffy Summers, Rupert Giles, utilized the remark of “a tattoo behind his right shoulder” from a Watcher Diary as a means of identifying the vampire in the series. When Buffy, the protagonist, first saw the tattoo, she described it as “a bird or something.”

Due to the presence of Angel’s tattoo on his back while he was in the dimension of Pylea, another character in the series timeline, Wesley Wyndham-Pryce, recognized Angel despite his Van-Tal appearance.

David Boreanaz’s Fake Tattoo has a deeper meaning.

“Angel’s tattoo actually has a pretty fascinating narrative behind it,” Joss Whedon, the creator and executive producer of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spinoff series Angel, said in an interview with ET Online in 2000.

He went on to say,

Furthermore, the tattoo’s pattern is based on an artwork from the Book of Kells, an illuminated manuscript Gospel book made in a Columban monastery in either Britain or Ireland that describes the four evangelists’ emblems.

As a result, Angel’s tattoo is a replica of the Saint Mark’s Lion sign.
