A career in coaching (2006- 2007)

In 2006, Bret began working as a coach with the Wisconsin Badgers in Madison. His squad finished the regular season with a record of 11-1 (7-1 in Big Ten Conference play) in his first game as head coach.

Similar to that, the squad defeated San Diego State by a score of 14-0 on September 16, 2006. With this triumph, Bielema became the third Wisconsin head coach to record three victories in a row.

Bielema continued to break records, defeating Purdue 24-3 on October 21 to become the first head coach in Wisconsin history to win seven games in the early going.

Bret’s resounding victories didn’t stop there; he went on to become the first Wisconsin coach to win eight games in a season.

On November 4, when he defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions by a score of 13-3, he also broke his previous record.

With his eighth victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes on November 11 by a 24-21, the record continued to rise. With his victory, Bret made Big Ten history by becoming the first head coach to win ten games in his debut campaign.

Bret’s third season with Arkansas was unsuccessful once more. The team had a sluggish start and lost games. In the non-conference, the Razorbacks also suffered losses to Toledo and Texas Tech.

However, the team’s final games of the campaign helped them defeat Kansas State by a score of 45–23.

Additionally, two losses to Missouri in the regular-season finale and Virginia Tech in the 2016 Belk Bowl made Bielema’s fourth season worse.

On November 24, 2017, after five seasons and a less-than-stellar coaching career with the Razorbacks, Bielema was sacked.
