Billy Kimmel, Jimmy Kimmel’s Son, had to have three heart surgery after being born with a congenital cardiac defect.
Jimmy Kimmel feels thankful as he celebrates the 5th birthday of his son William “Billy” John.
On Thursday, the 54-year-old talk show host paid tribute to his son with a touching Instagram post in which he thanked the physicians and nurses who helped preserve Billy, who was born with a congenital heart defect.
“Our little nut is five today. We will be eternally thankful to the incredible physicians and nurses at @ChildrensLA and @CedarsSinai for saving Billy’s life, as well as to those of you whose donations, prayers, and positive thoughts meant the world to us “Kimmel is a writer. “Please help families who want medical attention. There’s a link in my bio.”
After he was born with the congenital cardiac defect tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia, Kimmel and his wife Molly McNearney faced a difficult first year with their baby son, who had to have three heart surgeries (one when he was just three days old).
The talk show host, who has a 7-year-old daughter with McNearney and two older children from a previous relationship, Kevin and Katie, initially spoke out about his son’s condition in a heartbreaking monologue on his show in May 2017. In April 2018, Kimmel told Oprah Winfrey about his and his wife’s sense of alienation as a result of their worry.
“We held secrets from each other, which we finally divulged after the second surgery. The main one was that we didn’t want to get too close to the baby because we didn’t know what would happen, I believe subconsciously “In an interview for O, The Oprah Magazine’s April 2018 issue, Kimmel remarked.
Kimmel shared never-before-seen glimpses of his youngest child’s health fight with fans in October 2020, encouraging them to “vote with their hearts.”
During an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, he debuted a video feature chronicling his and McNearney’s hospital visits and surgeries for their then-newborn baby, Billy.
McNearney shows photographs and snippets of Billy shortly after his birth, in the NICU, and during his many hospital trips in the film. Billy has had three heart surgeries, according to the video, and has had over 60 doctor appointments in his three years of existence.
