Bowen Yang, a gay actor, claimed to be’straight’ in an Instagram post, leaving fans perplexed.
Bowen Yang is the first Chinese-American cast member on Saturday Night Live. Aside from that, he is one of the only openly gay cast members who have ever appeared on Saturday Night Live.
Yang’s admirers were surprised when he announced on Instagram that he was now straight and dating fellow SNL cast member Ego Nwodim, despite Yang being an openly gay star.
Is Yang in a relationship with Ego Nwodim?
After Yang shared a picture with Nwodim and said, “announcement: I’m straight now,” there was some confusion about his sexuality. “This is my partner.”
Nwodim made a similar post, including a photo of herself holding hands with a man. Unlike Yang’s article, however, hers did not divulge the identity of her companion, and she even requested anonymity.
Many folks were perplexed by the posts because Yang has been publicly gay for as long as he’s been with SNL. Despite this, many people wondered if the two were dating and if the comic had truly gone straight. The truth, on the other hand, was considerably more obvious. The Instagram photos were nothing more than a staged romance between the two.
This isn’t the first time Saturday Night Live cast members have portrayed a fictitious couple for laughs. While many fans picked up on the fact that it was a phony romance right away, others were left bewildered. To add fuel to the fire, on February 8, Nwodim tweeted, “Should I cheat on Bowen?” eliciting even more laughter and confusion.
Bowen Yang had already undergone gay conversion therapy.
Yang is a brilliant cartoonist who is pleased to be part of the LGBTQ community. He wasn’t always like this, though. The SNL cast had a difficult time coming to grips with his own sexual identity as the son of Chinese immigrants.
He admitted in an interview with The New York Times that he tried “straightness” when he first started at New York University, but it didn’t work for him.
Yang also revealed that his family was horrified when they discovered he was gay. Every day during dinner, his father, who he had only seen cry when Yang’s grandfather died, was sobbing in front of him.
To placate his parents, the cast of Saturday Night Live agreed to go to homosexual conversion therapy sessions. He despised it, but for the sake of his parents, he resolved to stick to it.
Yang also discussed his parents’ reactions to him being gay.
The comedian stated that his relationship with his family had greatly improved and that they were attempting to understand each other.
